The Coconut Research Institute of Sri Lanka (CRISL), established in 1929 at the Bandiripuwa Estate, Lunuwila, North Western Province, is the world’s first research institute dedicated to coconut cultivation and processing. Operating as a semi-autonomous national institute under the Ministry of Plantation Industries of Sri Lanka, the institute focuses on improving the productivity, profitability and long-term sustainability of the coconut industry.
