The Sri Lanka Disaster Management Act No. 13 of 2005 was enacted on May 13, 2005, and, in accordance with its provisions, the Disaster Management Centre (DMC) was established, effective from August 1, 2005. This Act mandated the establishment of two institutions: the ‘National Council for Disaster Management’ (NCDM) and the ‘Disaster Management Centre’ (DMC), which operates under the purview of the said Council.
