The Kurunegala Municipal Council is the local government authority responsible for the administration, infrastructure, and public services of the city of Kurunegala, the capital of Sri Lanka’s North Western Province. Established in 1880 as a local board, it evolved into an Urban Council in 1939 and was officially elevated to the status of a Municipal Council in 1949.
