Written Examination for Registration of Driving Instructors – 2026
In terms of the Gazette Extraordinary No. 1939/4 and Part II dated 2015.11.02, applications are invited from Sri Lankan citizens with the following qualifications for the written examination for registration of Driving Instructors of the Department of Motor Traffic up to 21.08.2026. The examination will be held in Colombo in September 2026.
01. Qualifications:
All applicants must meet the following qualifications as on the closing date for receipt of applications.
- The applicant must be a citizen of Sri Lanka.
- Must not be less than 23 years of age and not more than 65 years of age. (Accordingly, only those born on or before 21.08.2003 and on or after 21.08.1961 are eligible to apply for this.)
- Must have passed the General Certificate of Education (Ordinary Level) Examination with two credits in six subjects including Mathematics and Sinhala or Tamil Language in not more than two sittings or have an equivalent qualification.
- Or
Must have a National Vocational Qualification Level III (NVQ – Level 3) certificate in Motor Mechanics or Driving recognized by the Tertiary and Vocational Education Commission;
Or - Must have five years of experience as an Assistant Driving Instructor in a field of study immediately preceding the date of application.
