The National Institute of Education (NIE) is the premier educational institution in Sri Lanka, tasked with providing leadership in the field of general education, developing curricula, and spearheading the process of educational reform. Established in 1986 under the provisions of Parliamentary Act No. 28 of 1985, the Institute assumed the functions of the former ‘Curriculum Development Centre’ and subsequently expanded upon them. Currently, it functions as the professional and academic arm of the Ministry of Education.
