Recruitment of 62 000 People to the Public Service 2025

Cabinet approves immediate recruitment of 62,000 civil servants

President Anura Kumara Dissanayake says his aim is to modernize the government.

Participating in the National Youth Conference, the President said that the Cabinet has already approved the immediate recruitment of nearly 62,000 civil servants to modernize the government.

“Our government is not a job-providing center. Our government is a job-generating center. However, we need a government that is capable of creating an economy and a social corporation that will enable our public service to generate jobs. If we take our government today, it is a pile of rubble. Our government is bringing it to modernity. For that, we have already given the Cabinet approval to recruit nearly 62,000 civil servants.”

“We are not recruiting in bulk. We are not recruiting one hundred thousand, one and a half. But we have identified 62,000 people spread across the state who are needed to maintain the public service. We have advised that these 62,000 people be recruited into the public service as soon as possible. But will the employment problem be solved there? It will not be solved there. But this government needs to build an economy that generates jobs through the government process. We have made plans for that. We expect 2.5 million tourists to come to the tourism industry.

Our expectation is a tourism industry of 4 million by 2030. That means we planned to bring in 4 million. Our economy is approximately $4 billion. Our expectation is to turn the tourism industry into an industry that earns $8 billion by 2030. An economy based on the tourism industry will be built abroad. That will generate jobs. That is the government’s plan.”
