Eligibility to appear as a candidate in the Presidential Election in Sri Lanka:-
- Being a Sri Lankan citizen
- Age increase to 30 years.
- Being a franchisee means a person who is qualified to be a franchisee.
- Not subject to disqualification under Article 91 of the Constitution of Sri Lanka. (Constitution of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka)
- Being any eligible citizen if from a recognized political party, being or having been a Member of Parliament if nominated by another political party or voter
- Not being twice elected by the people for the office of President.

- Absence of the above qualifications.
- Subject to a disqualification in Article 91 of the Constitution of Sri Lanka (Constitution of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka)
- Disqualification under Article 89 of the Constitution of Sri Lanka. (Constitution of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka)
The circumstances in which the then Election Commissioner (now the Election Commission) should reject the nomination paper at the time of submission of nominations for the election of the President are specified under Section 15 of the President’s Election Act No. 15 of 1981 (President’s Election Act No. 15 of 1981).
