Under the provisions of the Right to Information Act, No. 12 of 2016, the Constitutional Council invites nominations from the organizations of publishers, editors and journalists for the appointment of a member of the Right to Information Commission to fill a vacancy in the membership of the Right to Information Commission as provided for in the relevant law.
According to the provisions of the Act, the members of the Commission shall be distinguished persons in public life with proven knowledge, experience and expertise in the fields of law, governance, public administration, social services, journalism, science and technology or management.
Furthermore, the nominees so nominated
- shall not be Members of Parliament or a member of any Provincial Council or a member of a local government institution;
- A person shall not: be affiliated with any political party;
- not carry on any business or engage in any profession.
Nominations shall be made in accordance with the information form published on the Parliament website www.parliament.lk under the quick links entitled ‘Appointment of a Member to the Right to Information Commission’ and duly completed nominations shall reach
