Established in 1951, IOM is a Related Organization of the United Nations, and as the leading UN agency in the field of migration, works closely with governmental, intergovernmental and non-governmental partners. IOM is dedicated to promoting humane and orderly migration for the benefit of all. It does so by providing services and advice to government and migrants.

We are seeking motivated interns to support various communications and programmatic activities of the mission. Key responsibilities include managing and monitoring social media accounts, covering mission-organized events and disseminating media outputs promptly, and organizing media repositories for efficient data retrieval. Interns will also assist in identifying content creation opportunities to enhance mission visibility.

Core Functions / Responsibilities:

• Assist in media monitoring activities of local and international media and compile a daily media monitoring report to be shared with the Mission’s senior management.
• Assist in drafting press releases and media content for the Mission’s website and social media accounts.
• Assist in organizing the Mission’s media repositories (press releases and related content) in an organized manner for ease of data retrieval.
• Assist in the preparation of presentations, reports, minutes, notes, and submissions relating to general communications of the mission.
• Be exposed to and experience the dynamics of a professional working environment at an International Organization. f) Obtain a broad understanding of the programmatic work undertaken by IOM and the UN Communications Group.

Eligibility Requirements

Applicants for this internship must, at the time of application, meet one of the following requirements:

1. Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelor’s level or equivalent);
   or
2. Be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher);
   or
3. Have graduated with a university degree (as defined in (i) or (ii) above) and, if selected, must commence the internship within one year of graduation.
4. All applicants must be between 20 and 36 years of age.
5. Skills: Excellent knowledge of English and Sinhala/Tamil. Must be able to articulate ideas clearly; Excellent reporting & communication skills in English are mandatory.
