VACANCY NOTICE

Applications are called from below mentioned qualified professionals for appointment to the post of Director General which is lying vacant at the Department of Archaeology under purview of Ministry of Buddhasasana, Religious & Cultural Affairs.

Title of the Post : Director General of Archaeology
Service period : Two years (02) from date of appointment
Salary Scale : Rs.156,000-12×4,850-214,200 (As per P.A.C.No.10/2025-SL 3-2025)
Age Limit : Should not be more than 55 years

Educational qualifications, experience and other qualifications

Should have obtained a first degree in Archaeology (Special) / Heritage Management with a postgraduate degree from a University which is recognized by the University Grants Commission.
And
Should have obtained a twenty years (20) of experience in a State Corporation or in a University at a managerial position, out of that, 05 years should have served at a senior management level post after obtaining the degree qualification.
Or

Along with a degree obtained in above subject, should have obtained a Master’s Degree in the relevant field and experience as an officer having service record of at least five (05) years at a managerial level post in a Government Organization, State Corporation, Statutory Institution or at a University.

Every applicant should be a citizen of Sri Lanka.
Applicants should have a good physical and mental health to discharge duties well in the post.
Applicants should be of a good moral character.

Method of Recruitment

An applicant will be selected through a structured interview.
Selected applicant will be provided with approved allowances and benefits entitled to the post of Director General of Archaeology during the tenure of the post.
Employees of the Government Institutions, State Corporations, Statutory Institutions or from Universities should forward their applications along with recommendation letter from their respective Heads of Institutions whether he/she can be released from the existing post, if selected.
