Open Competitive Examination for Recruitment to the Probation Officer Grade II of the Northern Provincial Probation and Child Care Services Department – 2025
In accordance with the Cabinet Decision dated 2025.02.19 issued by the Cabinet Office vide letter No. CP/DEC/25 dated 2025.02.19, and in accordance with the request of the Secretary to the Ministry of Health, Northern Province, applications are invited for recruitment to the vacancies of Probation Officer Grade II of the Northern Provincial Public Service through an open competitive examination. Accordingly, all the eligible candidates mentioned in this circular may apply for this. It is hereby notified that the limited competitive examination for this recruitment will be conducted by the Northern Provincial Public Service Commission. The last date for receipt of applications is 2025.06.25.
02. Conditions of Recruitment
- The candidates selected in accordance with the conditions stated in the Service Constitution relating to the post of Probationary Officer approved by the Hon. Governor of the Northern Province with effect from 01.01.2013 and the Recruitment Procedure relating to the post of Probationary Officer effective from 12.07.2016 and its amendments from time to time, the provisions of the Establishments Code, the Financial Regulations and the Procedural Rules for the Northern Provincial Public Service published in the Extraordinary Gazette of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka No. 1817/30 dated 03.07.2013 will be recruited to the post of Probationary Officer Grade II.
- Candidates who pass this examination and fulfill the qualifications for appointment will be appointed to the Probationary Officer Grade II subject to a probationary period of three (03) years as stated in the Service Constitution. However, if the Head of the Department is not satisfied with the service, conduct and attendance of the officer concerned, the probationary period may be extended.
- This post is a permanent and pensionable post. As stated in the Service Constitution and the Recruitment Procedure, the Probationary Officer should pass the First Efficiency Bar Examination within 03 years from the date of recruitment to Grade II.
02. Conditions of Recruitment
- This service is a service subject to transfers. Therefore, applicants appointed to this post should be subject to the condition that “they should serve in any part of the Northern Province”.
- The number of appointments and the date of effective date of appointments will be decided by the Appointing Authority. The number of vacancies for this post, which is related to the 70% vacancy announced for recruitment through open competitive examination by the Commissioner of the Department of Probation and Child Care Services, dated 25.04.2025, is four (04). However, the Appointing Authority reserves the right not to fill some or all of the vacancies announced.
- The second official language proficiency prescribed in accordance with Public Administration Circular No. 18/2020 and circulars issued in this regard from time to time should be obtained before the expiry of 03 years from the date of appointment.
03. Salary Scale
As per Public Administration Circular No. 10/2025 dated 25.03.2025, the combined salary scale for the post of Probationary Officer Grade II as per MN 5-2025 is Rs. 58,660 -10 X 1,190/= – 11 X 1,360/= – 15 X 1,670/= – 110,570/=. (Must pass the first efficiency cut-off test before proceeding to the salary step of Rs. 62,230/=).
