Role Summary
The Design Engineer, a mid-senior level position, will take an active role within the design team by assisting in the design of advanced carbon, Kevlar, and PBO fibre rigging, associated metal components, and supporting hardware and tooling. The Design Engineer will focus on mechanical design of composite part molds as well as rigging interface hardware (turnbuckles, eyes, hangers) in high strength materials such as Nitronic and Titanium.
The Design Engineer will receive training in rigging design, practical applications of advanced metallic components, and insights into the design and build of rigging for the world’s largest and fastest sailing vessels while interacting with co-workers at Future Fibres in Europe, Sri Lanka, and the USA, as well as counterparts at North Sails and Southern Spars.

Role Description
- Product Design Engineering:
- Produce yacht rigging design packages for clients.
- Create manufacturing drawings for rigging and machined parts.
Design & Development:
- Innovative & proprietary product development.
- Continual critique and improvement of existing products.
- Prototyping.
Project & People Management:
- Deliver completed projects on-time, on budget.
- Control labor and material project costs.
- Support production teams in Spain and Sri Lanka.
Skills and Qualifications
- Attention to detail is crucial.
- Highly proficient with SolidWorks and AutoCAD.
- A bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or Similar.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
- Ability to build good working relationships across all levels of the business.
- Fluency in English is a must.
- Sound computer literacy with the ability to effectively use Microsoft Office Package (Word/ Excel/ PowerPoint)
- A rigorous engineering mind always looking for the most efficient solutions to problems.
- A proactive self-starter and the ability to work under limited supervision to tight deadlines across multiple simultaneous projects.
- Experience with FEA and the ability to perform structural analysis of machined parts.
- Familiarity with Composite design and construction.
- Sailing experience (Not a must, but will be advantageous)
